Joe Steven is a Recording Artist & Composer for Film, TV, Video Games, and Commercial Media.
A self-taught pianist by the age of eight, Joe quickly became a passionate inventor of music, adding guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, trumpet, French horn, and percussion to his artistry. Joe later became the principal trumpet of the South Texas Youth Symphony, where he began to explore the art of composing and conducting music for orchestras.
In his early years, Joe also discovered his musical talents through 80’s and 90’s pop, rock, classical, and Hollywood film music, which has influenced him in expanding his craft and artistic horizons as a songwriter and orchestrator. Today, Joe writes music for soundtrack and pop genres by creating a tasteful fusion between the traditional music world and the silver screen. As a former GRAMMY® U Ambassador for the Texas Chapter of The Recording Academy, Joe Steven has had the opportunity to meet global superstars Taylor Swift and Juanes, who shared valuable guidance regarding the entertainment industry. Joe’s dedicated pursuit of becoming an international artist has led him to meet and learn from legendary musicians, including Arturo Sandoval (GRAMMY® winning jazz trumpeter) and Yanni (world-renowned pianist and composer).
In his senior year of high school, Joe directed a concert for his school, performing original music and covers for the community. His symphony, composed of his friends and classmates from band and orchestra, joined him on stage to deliver a momentous performance. At the mere age of 17, Joe became the first student in the school’s history to write and perform a full-length original production -- a true testament of his artistry as a musician and composer. “Performing songs that I had written with my closest friends will always hold a special place in my heart. I feel incredibly fortunate to now do what I love most and work with world-class artists and musicians from around the world.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from The University of Texas-Pan American, Joe Steven launched a record label and studio company where he arranged, orchestrated, and recorded his original debut album, “Relentless Love,” which was streamed in over 50 countries worldwide in 2018.
Joe Steven says that his goal is to be authentic as an artist. “I realized a long time ago that it’s not about me,” he says, “it’s about helping and lifting people through music. Love, hope, and the triumph of the human spirit — these are the touchstones to describe my music. I believe music can speak through language barriers and transcend logic by directly reaching the heart and soul. It is a brilliant light in a sea of darkness, constantly guiding humanity towards an infinite future.”
Throughout his musical journey, Joe Steven has collaborated with world-class musicians, including award-winning concert violinist Esther Abrami, classical guitarist Alexandra Whittingham, cellist Cristina Suey, drummer Zak St. John, saxophonist Justin Klunk, along with recording engineers David Payne, Charlie Vela, and GRAMMY® award-winning mastering engineers Randy Merrill, the late Tom Coyne, and Simon Gibson from Abbey Roads Studios in London.
Joe’s latest soundtrack album, “Starman: Mission to Mars,” featuring award-winning concert violinist Esther Abrami and Hollywood cellist Michelle Packman, is now streaming on music platforms worldwide. Inspired by SpaceX and NASA, Joe’s Starman album eloquently transports the listener on an intergalactic expedition through the universe that transcends time and space as they experience a charming tribute to human spaceflight and exploration. To celebrate Joe’s mastery of the album, he was recognized and featured as the honorary composer at the SpaceX Gala Exhibit on January 18, 2020, in Brownsville, Texas. As an artist, Joe draws his inspiration from the world around him to tell compelling stories and speak to the hearts of people through his music.
With the release of his new Starman: Mission to Mars album, Joe is currently working on multiple projects that are expected to be released in the near future.
